AR book clubs For lower level students, instead of point goals, try passed tests. Let AR be the student's choice. If they want to take a test, let them, if they don't, don't. Set up a program where students get certain rewards for passing (80% or higher) a certain amount of tests. For example, if a child passes 5 AR tests, let them pick out of a prize box. If they pass 75 tests, let them pick a book from a book club. Your levels could be set as follows: 5 tests, 10 tests, 15 tests, 25 tests, 50 tests, 75 tests, 100 tests (trip to Pizza Hut, you buy).

I've also found that simply being allowed to sit on the floor to read (an earned privledge), sitting in the hall, sitting on or under your desk, taking your shoes off or having a snack while reading are also great rewards to reach for!

Use upper grade book buddies to read the book and tests with younger, inexperienced children.
